The Banquet Room at St. Mary's
Sunday, December 10, 2017
The Banquet Room at St. Mary's
Unlike last year, the 2017 Christmas Tea found the weather delightfully cooperative. Our 64 guests enjoyed the three course tea, provided by Upscale Eats, that was as delicious as it was beautiful! The savory course offered a shrimp shot, Boursin Cheese & Cucumber Sandwich, Fruited Chicken Salad in a mini croissant, spinach quiche and a stuffed mushroom. The second course consisted of scones served with lemon curd, Devonshire Cream and berry jam. The sweets course brought Truffle Brownie Cups, Pumpkin Squares, Baklava Cups, Citrus Bliss Mini Cakes and fresh strawberries. Guests were given their choice of several flavors of tea or coffee. Our theme this year was "A Regency Christmas" featuring a slide show presentation by Amy Patterson about the life and work of author Jane Austen. Several guests came dressed in period attire and were introduced as they entered the room in Regency fashion by Jerry Gerber, who was wearing a vintage tuxedo. There was a lavish Gift Raffle as well as a "Shopping Table" offering hand-made holiday theme crafts, and Ms. Patterson's company, "Jane Austen Books," brought a selection of books for purchase. The tea netted $2,183.46. This success was made possible thanks to the support of our sponsors: J. Jeffery Cameron, M.D. and Lake Health. We very much appreciate their financial support in making this annual tea a success.

Yoder's Home Cooking, Burton, OH
The Amish Wedding Dinner was held at the home of Rachel Yoder for once again. We're seeking a new location for 2018 as Rachel has retired after several years of welcoming strangers into her home to enjoy her delicious cooking. Forty three people gathered around the long tables to enjoy a hearty meal of baked chicken, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, salad, hot vegetables and an assortment of delicious home baked pies. The event also offered an all-certificate Gift Raffle and the opportunity to purchase 50/50 Pick Three Lottery tickets. The following sponsors helped us keep the prices low: Middlefield Banking Company, Luschin & Luschin CPA's, and Advanced Accounting Consultants. The event netted $1,648.65.

Spring Luncheon
The Banquet Room at St. Mary's, Chardon
125 guests enjoyed a slide show presentation describing the restoration of the beloved Euclid Beach Carousel by John Frato. Mr. Frato is the president of the Euclid Beach Now organization and the spearhead of that restoration. Guest favors were popcorn balls and Salt Water Taffy from the Humphrey Popcorn Company. As the Humphrey family owned Euclid Beach Park it seemed appropriate. Reserve House Catering served an eclectic variety of summer sandwiches, salads and desserts. Harpist Virginia Dickson provided beautiful music while guests had lunch and bought tickets for the gift raffle. As always, we're grateful to our generous sponsors who helped defray costs and increase the bottom line.
